Artifact N, Roman Zakharov
It is always wondrous to think of art in the context of time and the long-term preservation. What are the artworks that the institutions will put on display in hundreds of years from now? Will there be institutions at all? Zakharov creates this “inconvenient artifact” to challenge the viewers of the future and capture the moment of now when technologies play pivotal role in communities across the globe. The invention of mobile phones occurred during the teenage years of the artist, who belongs to the last generation in Kazakhstan to witness the transition from the analogous to the digital era.
