Roman Zakharov

He was born in 1988, in the village of Kirov, South-Kazakhstan region. He lives and works in Almaty.

The artist tends to use traditional illustrative methods – graphic sheets, graphitti and murals of narrative character. Despite this, Zakharov is constantly looking for new media and semantic ways of self-expression and makes projects - objects, installations and video art. Thematically, the artist explores issues of identification, cultural and historical heritage.

Notable recent exhibitions include «Hommagination» project-zine within the framework of the exhibition «Fathers and Sons», Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (2018), «Time & Astana», National Museum, Astana, Kazakhstan (2017), Exhibitions of young artists of the School of Artistic gesture, in within the framework of ARTBAT FEST, Almaty, Kazakhstan (2016-2018).


Kazakhstan contemporary art exhibition opened in South Korea

On November 27, the National Museum of Kazakhstan opened the Eurasian Utopia: Post Scriptum exhibition at the SIMA Museum of Contemporary Art (South Korea, Suwon). The exhibition is organized in collaboration with the SIMA museum. It presents more than 100 works of 57 artists of the Soviet period and modern times. The exhibition is the fourth and final in a series of foreign events of the international project FOCUS KAZAKHSTAN, reports.

Prominent Contemporary artists from Kazakhstan participate in Lahore Biennale 02

The Lahore Biennale 02 (LB02) kicked off at Huzuri Bagh Lahore Fort on January 26, 2020 under the title “Between the Sun and the Moon” with some prominent painters from Kazakhstan namely Ms. Almagul Menlibayeva, Ms. Zitta Sultanbayeva, Ms. Saule Suleimenova, Mr. Syrlybek Bekbotayev and Mr. Roman Zakharov being part of it.

Kazakh activist jailed for people-power banner citing constitution

A Kazakh activist has been sentenced to five days in jail after hanging a big banner citing the constitution from a pedestrian bridge in Almaty, the tightly controlled country's largest city, amid tension over a snap election that will be held in June,RFE/RL reports.
